Tampa Gardening: Two Separate Hardiness Zones

Did you know that the USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map shows Tampa with two separate hardiness zones? The USDA zones are the standard by which gardeners and plant growers use to figure out which plants are most likely to survive in an area. It’s based on average annual minimum winter temperatures. The zones are split into 10-degree F zones.

Not all of Tampa has the same zone though. The area actually has two zones: Zone 9b and Zone 10a.

  • Zone 9b: 25 to 30°F
  • Zone 10a: 30 to 35°F

Florida itself has seven different zones.
