Head up everyone: Tampa Bay Watch has cancelled this weekends Great Bay Scallop Search. Volunteer boaters and snorkelers had planned to head to the bay this weekend to search for elusive bay scallops, but the even has been cancelled.

They are just cancelling out of caution in case the algae bloom should pass by. So far, it hasn’t, but that’s a lot of effort to get everyone together should it head up to Tampa Bay.

The entire event is just to monitor the health of the scallops. They had been failing for decades, but the water quality and seagrass beds have improved in Tampa Bay waters so much that they finally support the scallop population again!
