5 Kitchen Staging Tips You Can’t Afford to Ignore
Staging is the act of making your home as appealing as possible to the widest range of buyers – and when it comes to the kitchen, it’s essential. Other than cleaning your kitchen from top to bottom (which is absolutely necessary, too), here are five essential kitchen staging tips that can help you sell your home:
- Clear the counters
- Update your hardware
- Make sure your lighting is on-point
- Organize your cabinets
- Add colorful accents

Basic Kitchen Staging Tip #1: Clear the Counters
You want buyers to see that you have plenty of counter space, so put away anything that interrupts the expanse. Toasters, blenders and other appliances need to be stashed in a cabinet; don’t leave anything out.

Basic Kitchen Staging Tip #2: Update Your Hardware
You can revive your kitchen’s look with fresh, new hardware. Think about getting new cabinet handles and drawer pulls, a new handle for your pantry, and possibly even a new faucet. (Just make sure they all match each other!)

Basic Kitchen Staging Tip #3: Make Sure the Lighting is On-Point
Buyers like to see light, bright kitchens, so make sure your light fixture contributes to that. Many kitchens only feature one natural light source, and it’s usually a small window over the sink, so you may need to rely heavily on artificial lighting. If your current light fixture isn’t doing so well, head to your favorite home improvement store and see what’s available.

Basic Kitchen Staging Tip #4: Organize Your Cabinets
Buyers can – and often do – open up all the cabinets and drawers, and peek inside pantries, too. That means you need to clear out yours and make sure they’re exceptionally well-organized. The idea is to show buyers that there’s plenty of storage space and that you take care of your things; they’ll carry that impression with them through the rest of your home.

Basic Kitchen Staging Tip #5: Add Colorful Accents
A few colorful accents can brighten up your kitchen. Think about adding some potted herbs, a cookbook propped open to a delicious recipe, or even a fruit basket with fresh, seasonal fruit in it. Ideally, your accents will simply complement your space without cluttering your countertops.
