Apollo Beach has certainly gone through a rough patch over the past generation. Years of erosion stripped the area of much of its sand, leaving the beach a rocky, less-than-inviting shoreline. However, a recent project to dredge the area and replace acres of sandy beach has breathed fresh life into the park.

Apollo Beach Nature Preserve Amenities

Tampa Bay’s Apollo Beach Nature Preserve is an area treasure, providing local residents with public shore access and recreational opportunities. Public parking and restroom facilities make the 63-acre preserve a convenient place for families to visit and enjoy ocean views and local wildlife. Park amenities include:

• Paved and unpaved hiking trails
• Picnic areas with pavilion shelters
• Beach access

Activities at Apollo Beach Nature Preserve

The west side of the preserve is a haven for sunbathers and sightseers. With its freshly restored sandy beach, area residents are once again enjoying a walk along the beach, in addition to birdwatching and shore fishing.

Just north of Apollo Beach is a power plant, whose warm water outfall attracts manatees and certain species of fish. The eastern side of the preserve has been restored to its original, natural wildlife habitat. The tidal marshes, rolling dunes, mangrove swamps and sandy islands are home to a wide array of native gulf coast birds, wildlife and sea creatures.
