Should You Buy a Home With a Swimming Pool

If you’re like many people, you love the idea of moving into a home with a swimming pool – but is it the right choice for you?

Should You Buy a Home With a Swimming Pool?

If you’re buying a home with a pool, make sure you know local ordinances that will apply to you. In many cases, homeowners with swimming pools must maintain a safety fence (and often, the fence must be locked when the pool isn’t being supervised).

In addition to being mindful of (and obeying) local ordinances and state laws, you’re going to have to maintain your pool – otherwise, it’ll quickly decline, and it’ll end up costing you far more than it’s worth.

Most swimming pools need to be skimmed weekly and cleaned fairly frequently. If you’re not capable of doing it yourself, you’re going to have to hire someone to do it for you. Pool maintenance can get expensive, too; you’ll need to maintain a safe balance of chemicals in the pool and make sure you’re cleaning the filters and other mechanics.

If you’re able to meet all these requirements, then go for it – and enjoy your new home with a pool.
